WVU baseball is not taking their needs at pitcher lightly.

After a season that featured most losses coming due to struggles with the pitching staff, followed by the departure of ten pitchers due to transfers and graduation, the Mountaineers are committed to revamping the bullpen and finding capable pitchers to take the mound in 2026. That process has resulted in the addition of quite a few incoming transfers.

One of those recent additions brings a Little River, S.C. native back to the US mainland after he spent his freshman season slinging pitches in the islands for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, as sophomore pitcher Joshua Surigao has committed to the Mountaineers.

Surigao won't add a ton of in-game experience for WVU, as he was mostly a depth piece in Hawaii's bullpen -- he appeared in just two games and pitched a minuscule 0.2 innings, but did manage to earn to strikeouts in his first collegiate appearance on the mound and also work a scoreless inning in his second appearance. But he brings an attitude that Mountaineer fans -- and coach Steve Sabins and his staff -- are sure to love.

"I’m the kind of player that likes to compete, but I enjoy the process of getting better and always learning. I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent WVU and will give my all for this team and community," Surigao told Rivals.

Surigao joins a transfer class that now boasts six additions at pitcher, including three from the Division 1 level -- Surigao will stand beside FIU transfer Owen Puk and Tennessee transfer Bryson Thacker as incoming transfers with Division 1 experience.
