West Virginia University President Gordon Gee spoke about former Mountaineers basketball coach Bob Huggins during an appearance at Tuesday's Sports Business Journal Intercollegiate Athletic Forum -- and seemingly attacked Huggins over an accusation made Huggins made regarding his departure from the school in 2023 following a DUI.

College sports insider Brett McMurphy of The Athletic first shared some of Gee's quotes from the event, where Gee insinuated Huggins lied about how events played out. He specifically referred to a July 2023 claim from Huggins that he didn't sign a resignation letter as the university had claimed.

"I did not draft or review WVU's statement," Huggins wrote at the time. "This false statement was sent under my name, but no signature is included...I am employed by WVU pursuant to an Employment Agreement. I never submitted the notice required under the Employment Agreement to voluntarily resign."

Gee claimed on Tuesday when prompted for a Bob Huggins story that this was false.

"I have a lot of Bob Huggins' stories. One, we asked him to step down, he claimed he didn't sign the agreement. Claimed it was his wife who signed it. Not true, my friend," Gee reportedly said.
