Akheem Mesidor began his collegiate career in Morgantown with the West Virginia Mountaineers. He finished it with the Miami (FL) Hurricanes in South Florida. Now, he's headed to the West Coast to play for Los Angeles Chargers after being selected at No. 22 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.

With his selection, he joins a rare club that not many can claim to be a member of – the club that consists of first round draft picks, which only 32 people get to join every year. How did he achieve the goal?

"I work my butt off, that I'm relentless, I can set edges and when it comes to third downs or pass-rush downs, I'm able to get after the quarterback inside and outside," Mesidor said. "I just want people to just look at me like, 'Man, this guy came to work.'"

Akheem Mesidor goes from starring at WVU to starring on Night 1 of the NFL Draft

Mesidor spent his first two seasons with the West Virginia Mountaineers from 2020-2021, where he recorded 70 tackles and 9.5 sacks. After his second season with WVU, he hit the transfer portal, and ended up with the Miami (FL) Hurricanes.

He sepnt four seasons with Miami (FL), with his final season being his best yet. He put up quite impressive numbers in his super senior season, finishing the year with 63 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles. He also played a crucial role in helping the Hurricanes reach the College Football Playoff National Championship game. He was named a First-Team All-ACC selection for his performance.
