Sometimes, making an NFL roster and getting an opportunity to prove your worth can be a matter of luck, and plenty of talented players get just one opportunity at solidifying themselves a spot in the league.
But now, the UFL is establishing itself as a spring/summer football league that serves not only to provide football for fans during what is normally the offseason, but also to provide players opportunities to prove to NFL franchises they deserve a shot at the league. And now, another former WVU football standout is getting another sht at the NFL after putting together an impressive UFL season.
Kaden Prather signs NFL contract after impressive 2026 UFL campaign
Kaden Prather didn't finish his collegiate career with the Mountaineers, but spent his first two seasons with the program playing a significant role in Neal Brown's offense. His sophomore season, he racked up 501 receiving yards and three touchdowns before entering his name into the portal.
Prather continued to excel after transferring to Maryland, where he tallied 1,290 receiving and nine touchdowns during his final two seasons, which was good enough for the Buffalo Bills to draft him in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. But he ended up waived after an injury during the preseason.
That led him to the UFL this year, where he played in 11 games and hauled in 149 receiving yards while helping play a critical role in an offense that led the Louisville Kings to the UFL Championship. That was enough to impress at least one NFL team, as he recently signed a contract with the Green Bay Packers.
Another former Mountaineers star who had fallen off any active NFL rosters, Tony Fields, also put together a strong showing in the UFL this past season, earning himself a spot back in the league this season.
