Former West Virginia football defensive back and NFL star Adam "Pacman" Jones has never been shy about his use of cannabis before playing in football games.
Jones would open up about his prior use during his playing days in the NFL on Deion Sanders' weekly Tubi show "We Got Time Today" earlier this week.
"I cheated the program," Jones said. "Like I was really good. People don’t know how smart I am, but like, I can say it now. I don’t play no more. But like, I’ve never used my (urine) for a (urine) test. Not one time. Not one time.”
Jones also disagreed with Sanders that the NFL's substance abuse program is more strict today, and argued that you can still get fake tests through while Sanders didn't think it was possible. Sanders' co-host wanted Jones to elaborate further how he could get away with it in the modern era, but Deion would shut the conversation down before it could go any farther.
Jones played at WVU from 2002-2004 and was drafted as the sixth overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. He would go on to play for four different NFL teams over thirteen seasons before retiring in 2018.
In 2007, Jones was suspended for the entire season under the NFL's substance abuse policy after several run-ins with police, ultimately leaving the NFL to be more strict with the testing that was taking place on players even during the offseason.
Since then, the NFL has relaxed its cannabis policy after receiving push back from players in regards to cannabis helping out with the recovery period process after injuries. The NCAA also removed cannabis from their banned substance list for college football in 2024.
Jones, meanwhile, stands firm in his support for cannabis to this day.
"I'm all for the weed," Jones said.
