A former West Virginia basketball coach and college basketball legend may be getting back into the sport following a two-year absence.
Bob Huggins was named as a candidate for the head coaching opening at McNeese State by Jeff Goodman of Field of 68 on Monday. McNeese State is coming off an impressive season that saw them earn an NCAA Tournament bid and advance to the Round of 32 before bowing out of the postseason.
Here's a list of potential candidates for the McNeese State opening, source told @TheFieldOf68:

Bill Armstrong (Baylor), former West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins, James Miller (Okl St.), Matt Woodley (Wake), former Tennessee head coach Donnie Tyndall, Chase Buford (KU) and…
The Cowboys were led this season by former LSU coach Will Wade, who was floated as a candidate for the current opening at WVU before accepting the opening at ACC program North Carolina State.
Huggins has not coached since the 2022-2023 season, where the Mountaineers made the NCAA Tournament before losing to rival Maryland in the Round of 64. Huggins would have the most wins of any active Division 1 coach if he returned to the sidelines with 935 career victories -- he coached at the Division 1 level every season from 1984-2023, and helmed WVU from 2007-2023. He led the Mountaineers to the 2010 Final Four.
Huggins resigned among the growing pressure of termination during the Summer of 2023, where he delivered a homophobic slur on a radio show as a guest, and followed that up a month later with a DUI in downtown Pittsburgh in a university-paid car.
Huggins has recently expressed interest in returning to coaching, but has yet to find an opportunity. Is it possible he could get the opportunity with McNeese State? Time will tell.
