There's terrible luck and then there's what has happened for former West Virginia football standout Bryce Ford-Wheaton to start off his NFL career. He just can't seem to stay healthy and the latest setback arrived for him on Sunday.
The wide receiver and special teams playmaker for the New York Giants went down with a serious-looking injury during a camp practice and it has since been reported by Dan Duggan that he tore his Achilles. Just like that, Ford-Wheaton's 2025 season is over. He just took to social media as well to let everyone know that he's devastated, but he's going to fight to get back on the field as soon as he can:
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t devastated! I did everything by the book! Didn’t take a single shortcut, left no stone unturned, invested everything into my body and my health this year. I’m not sure why me but I promise I’m not going out on these terms. It’s a long road ahead…

NY Giants WR Bryce Ford-Wheaton is out for the season with a torn Achilles
"I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t devastated! I did everything by the book! Didn’t take a single shortcut, left no stone unturned, invested everything into my body and my health this year," Ford-Wheaton posted on Twitter. "I’m not sure why me but I promise I’m not going out on these terms. It’s a long road ahead for sure but I know this is just part of God's plan for me no matter how tough it may seem right now. Thank you all for your prayers, please continue to keep me in them. I WILL be back that’s a promise!! God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers!"
Ford-Wheaton surprisingly went undrafted in 2023, but he signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent. That summer, though, adversity arrived for the youngster when he suffered a torn ACL during a preseason game. He lost his rookie season because of that injury.
He was on his grind in his rehab and he was back to full health in '24, appearing in 14 games for the Giants. He didn't post any receptions, but he indeed was a special teams standout for Brian Daboll and his staff. The expectation was that Ford-Wheaton would make plenty of noise again on special teams in '25.
Instead of that happening, we're now going to have to wait until 2026 at the earliest to see the former West Virginia fan favorite in action. For him to suffer two season-ending injuries in a three-year span is nothing short of heartbreaking for him. He can't catch a break, but as Ford-Wheaton said, he'll work overtime to come back stronger than ever.
