The West Virginia Mountaineers have seen their first round of players announce their plans to enter the transfer portal now that the 2025 season has reached it's conclusion.

With a 49-man signing class entering the program before WVU even hits the portal to add to the roster, it's only natural that several WVU players will be planning to enter the portal themselves and find a new home. And while the transfer portal won't officially open until January 2, it's expected that players will start announcing their intent to hit the portal over the next few weeks. And before we get too deep into this, yes, Nicco Marchiol is expected to enter the portal and has been since the middle of the season, though he's made no announcement of his own yet regarding that decision.

The first announcements came on Thursday that players would be leaving WVU as sophomore offensive lineman Jude Edwards and freshman linebacker Mike Hastie announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal once it opens.

Edwards was was a late addition to the WVU roster this past fall after spending his freshman season at Trinity Valley CC in Texas, where he played in all nine games for an offensive line that paved the way for a unit which averaged averaged 394.8 yards per game and 26 points per game He saw no action for WVU this season. Hastie was a member of WVU's 2025 recruiting class, and saw action in two games this season (Robert Morris, Texas Tech) and recorded one tackle for the Mountaineers.

The further news came on Friday that a pair of in-state players would be transferring out of the program, as freshman wideout Tyshawn Dues and freshman offensive lineman Ethan Chill announced they'd also be departing Morgantown.

Dues and Chill were high school teammates at Hurricane (WV), where they helped lead their team to a state runner-up finish as seniors. Dues was the No. 1 ranked recruit in West Virginia in his class by ESPN and On3, and No. 2 by 247Sports. Both players redshirted this season, with neither seeing any action for WVU.
