If there's one thing you can almost guarantee about West Virginia football next season, it's that the offense in Morgantown should be quite efficient.
It's quite an easy thing to deduce -- it's a trademark of a Rich Rodriguez offense.
You can see from his first tenure in Morgantown how efficient his offense was at putting points on the board and outscoring opponents -- for example, during his final two seasons during that stint (2006-2007), Rodriguez's offense managed 97 rushing touchdowns and scored 1,008 total points points. Those stats peaked during the 2007 season, when the Mountaineers racked up 49 of those scores on the ground and 513 of those points. Both numbers stand in 2024 as single-season program records.
But nearly two decades later, not much has changed. Look at Rodriguez's Jacksonville State offense in 2024 to see that -- according to Matrix Analytical, the Gamecocks ranked No. 10 overall at the FBS level in terms of scoring efficiency and No. 3 amongst Group of 6 teams. If he had been coaching for the Mountaineers in 2024 and had replicated those numbers, they would have easily ranked No. 1 overall in the Big 12 Conference in scoring efficiency.
So when getting ready for the 2025 WVU football season as a fan, make sure you are expecting a bit more of an up-tempo scoring offense than the Neal Brown era gave Mountaineer Nation.
