Details revealed on West Virginia football commit Chris Wilson Jr.'s tragic death

The West Virginia football community is currently mourning the tragic loss of 2027 commit Chris Wilson Jr., following the news of his untimely death at just 17 years old over the weekend in Muncie, Indiana.

According to reports, the Muncie Police Department responded to reports of shots fired at 2:59 a.m. on Monday. When the police arrived, Wilson Jr. was found in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene, and an investigation into his death is currently ongoing.

2027 WVU football commit passes away

Wilson Jr. attended Yorktown High School in Yorktown, Indiana. On Monday morning, Yorktown High School principal Stacey Brewer released a statement announcing Wilson's passing.

"With great sadness, I share that Chris Wilson, a senior at Yorktown High School, died tragically early this morning," Brewer wrote. "His family has given us permission to share this news. Chris was a valued member of our school, our football team, and our community. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and teammates."

Wilson Jr. was ranked fourth among West Virginia's 24 commits in the Class of 2027 at the beginning of his senior season, according to ESPN. During his junior season, Wilson Jr. recorded 25 tackles, four sacks, and one interception while leading the school to a Class 4A Sectional Championship. He was the 11th-ranked recruit in the state of Indiana according to ESPN.
