Fans now have a date for the return of the Backyard Brawl in basketball to the WVU Coliseum this fall.

The Mountaineers will play host to the Pitt Panthers in Morgantown during the 2025-2026 season after WVU had to travel to the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh last year, where they were handed a brutal 86-62 loss by their arch-rival.

Now, the rivalry will be back at the WVU Coliseum on Thursday, November 13. The Mountaineers have dropped their annual basketball matchup with Pitt for two consecutive seasons now, but the Mountaineers had won the previous five games in the series since it was renewed in 2018. Before the Big East fell apart and the Mountaineers headed for the Big 12, the two teams last played during 2011-2012 season, with the two teams splitting a pair of games.

Overall, the Mountaineer lead the series with the Panthers 103-90, and also have a significant advantage on their homecourt -- in Morgantown, WVU leads the series 64-31. The series was recently extended by four games last January, ensuring the series between the two programs will continue through the 2027-2028 season.

Individual game tickets are not yet on sale for this game or for the upcoming season, but Mountaineer fans who want to secure a seat at this season's Backyard Brawl at the WVU Coliseum are encouraged to invest in season tickets, which are now available at WVUGAME.com -- a number of season ticket packages are more affordable this season, with the "get-in" price currently lowered by over 25% to encourage more fans to make it out and support WVU basketball.
