The West Virginia Mountaineers have had an impressive start to the offseason in the transfer portal over the past week, securing some game-changing commitments from multiple four-star transfers.

But WVU is not done making moves yet, and will still need to make some more additions to the roster. And some buzz is starting to emerge around one name that will be quite familiar to WVU fans, as he started for the program just one year ago.

Sincere Harris back to WVU basketball in the transfer portal?

Harris starred for the Mountaineers during the 2024-2025 season, and while he was not much of a dynamic threat on the offensive end of the floor, he was a valuable asset for his elite defensive capabilities. He averaged 5.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.7 steals during his season in Morgantown.

Now, Harris is in the transfer portal again after his latest team, Cincinnati, underwent a coaching change – and his name is starting to be whispered in connection with the Mountaineers. He'll be familiar with Hodge, as the pair likely had at least one conversation after last year's coaching change in Morgantown before Harris decided to enter the portal.

Harris is the perfect type of player for Ross Hodge's defensive-first approach, and would fit in perfectly to the system Hodge runs. He also now brings two years worth of experience playing in the Big 12. That is very useful when you're likely to have a freshman and a group of transfers in the starting lineup.

Right now, things are still relatively quiet on whether the parties have had discussions, or how serious interest may be on either side. But it will definitely be something to keep an eye on as the Mountaineers move forward through the portal period.
