Could Rick Trickett be ready to make a change on West Virginia's offensive line?

It's hard to argue that the West Virginia Mountaineerslook much better this seasonthan they did in 2025 along the offensive line. That much is clear.

But given the level of competition they've faced in the first two games of the season, it's hard to make an accurate assessment as to exactly how much the team has improved in the offensive trenches. A major measuring stick for the group will come this weekend against No. 25 Virginia in their final non-conference game, and if things don't go well, you might see some changes come quickly up front.

During an appearance on The Rich Rodriguez Show on Monday, veteran offensive line coach Rick Trickett talked about how pleased he was with how well the second team offensive line played on Saturday against UT-Martin, and he let it slip that there might be someone among the starting fivein danger of losing their jobto a backup.

"A couple of guys on that second group, I don't have any hesitation at all about putting them in the ballgame right now. None. As a matter of fact, if one of them up front doesn't start cranking it up just a little bit higher than what I like, I'm going to make a change," Trickett said.

Now, this could just be Trickett giving his team some in-house bulletin board material, so to speak – an attempt to fire up some his starters and help them find an extra gear against Virginia. But Trickett isn't the type to play games, and there's also a good chance we should take him at his word, and assume someone might not be living up to his standard.

Of course, West Virginia played pretty poorly up front last year, and not much of a change was made among the starting group, or who was seeing playing time, until late in the season. But that was a different line coach, and a unit that had a lot less depth than the current one does. So it's possible the talent and wherewithal needed to make changes just wasn't there before, but is now.
