WVU fans who are also alcohol connoisseurs should be excited – because another WVU athletics branded beer is on the way.

Elkins, W.Va-based Big Timber Brewing has officially announced that they worked with the university to release an officially licensed craft beer representing WVU. The product will be known as “Mountain Beer” and will be a pale ale at 4.5% ABV. Mountain Beer will be released to the public for the first time on Friday, August 1 during a launch party at Mountain Mama’s in Morgantown, W.Va that is scheduled from 5:30 PM EST to 7:30 PM EST. Members of the WVU Men’s Basketball coaching staff will also be at the event.

The brand will be carried at WVU sports venues such as the WVU Coliseum and Milan Puskar Stadium, but will also be available for consumers to purchase at other locations where Big Timber beer is sold. An undisclosed portion of Mountain Beer proceeds will be used to support the university.

Mountain Beer is said to be “a crisp, hop-forward Session Pale Ale” that is “light-bodied, dry, and endlessly crushable. It will become the second WVU branded beer from the brewing company, joining the “Trust Lager” initially released in 2023 in collaboration with WVU NIL collective Country Roads Trust. Trust Lager will remain on the market alongside Mountain Beer.

Mountain Beer will be the second WVU branded alcohol hitting the market in 2025, with Upper Tract, W.Va based distillery Swilled Dog set to roll out co-branded bottles of their bourbon starting in August.
