Through the ups and downs of the season so far, WVU basketball has been able to hold onto one impressive claim revolving around their performance at Hope Coliseum in Morgantown. But that came to an end on Saturday.

The West Virginia Mountaineers entered their game against the Baylor Bears with an unblemished 13-0 record on their home court this season, and a 16-game home winning streak stretching back to February 19, 2025 when West Virginia knocked off Cincinnati to win the first of ther final three home contests under Darian DeVries.

But between a slow start for the fourth consecutive game and a dismal shooting effort, the Mountaineer were unable to escape a Baylor team desperate for a win after winning just one of their first eight conference games, and were defeated 63-53 by the Bears.

WVU basketball suffers first loss of the season at Hope Coliseum

West Virginia will hope that the first home loss of the season does not signal a concerning shift towards struggling to defend their homecourt as the season wears on, particularly as that's been just about the only place the Mountaineers have found success this year.

West Virginia is 0-4 on neutral courts this season, and has went 1-3 in true road games – with their only win away from Hope Coliseum coming against Arizona State. The Mountaineers will also want to get better away from their home floor as the page turns toward the final month of the regular season, but continuing to win as they did for the first 13 games in Morgantown will be crucial if they want to put themselves in position as a postseason team come March.
