The summer is here, and with it comes the busiest part of official visit season for college football programs.
The West Virginia Mountaineers have an impressive offseason haul to boast headed into the upcoming season, but Rich Rodriguez and his staff are hard at work assembling their 2027 recruiting class as well. And with several of those prospects set to make visits to Morgantown over the next month, there are a few targets in particular that the Mountaineers might want to go the extra mile to secure.
3 important recruiting targets set to visit WVU football in June
Kaston Lewis, ATH - June 5
Lewis is listed as the 11th-best athlete in the Class of 2027 and the tenth-best player in Louisiana in his class by 247Sports. He has played significant snaps at both safety and running back in high school, and the Mountaineers currently have no safeties and just one tailback committed in the class.
Playing for Iowa (Louisiana), Lewis posted 902 rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns on offense and 110 tackles (10 TFL) and six interceptions on defense, helping lead his team to a 14-0 record. He also has some serious athleticism packed into his 6-foot frame, registering a 21-foot, 10-inch long jump as a sophomore in 2025.
Jalen Welch, S - June 5
Welch is a three-star prospect, but is just one point away in 247Sports' rankings from qualifying as a four-star – he is listed as the 39th-best safety in his class. Already standing at 6-foot-3, he would make a lengthy addition to the secondary, and has the stats to back up his rating. He finished his unior season with 36 tackles (4 TFL), five pass breakups, and two interceptions.
Ethan Lawson, IOL - June 12
Rich Rodriguez talked a lot last season about needing more size on his offensive line, and made an effort to rectify that issue in the transfer portal and in his 2026 recruiting class. He could continue addressing the offensive line for the future by landing Lawson. The Rye Cove (Virginia) star already is a massive 6-foot-6, 310 pounds as a high school junior, and he's ranked the 41st-best interior offensive lineman in the class by 247Sports.
