Saturday, Bob Huggins and the 13-7 West Virginia Mountaineers fell once again, this time to the Arkansas Razorbacks. The loss extends their losing streak to five straight. Following the game, Huggins spoke to the media before heading to Waco, TX, to take on the fourth-ranked Baylor Bears.

Few things mean more to the people of West Virginia than Mountaineer basketball. One man that knows that better than anyone is West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins. After a promising start to the 2021-22 season, West Virginia has now dropped five straight, and if not careful this coming Monday, that streak could extend to six.

In the loss to Arkansas on Saturday, the Mountaineers continued to battle throughout the game. Though West Virginia would eventually drop the game to the Razorbacks, they showed heart and some promise for the future.

Down 19 points in the second half, the Mountaineers battled back and kept the game close for some time. West Virginia even managed to come within five points of Arkansas, but a series of fouls and missed shots would lead to their demise.

After the game, head coach Bob Huggins was asked if he was worried about the team’s quick turnaround to play on the road against a top-5 team this coming Monday.

Huggins seems confident in his team’s ability to bounce back; after all, this was the first time in a while that the Mountaineers looked competitive throughout the game.

If West Virginia can pull off the upset on Monday against Baylor, the Mountaineers could very well turn their dying season around and make the tournament with momentum.

A sixth straight loss, however, would likely be the end of West Virginia’s basketball season. Following their match-up with Baylor, the Mountaineers will then face-off against two more ranked opponents in their following two games.
