West Virginia vs Baylor Prediction Tonight

The Mountaineers have been dominant at home, jumping out to a sterling 10-0 record and holding every team they’ve faced below 70 points. No slouch on the road, the Bears are 3-0 away from Waco and I see this as a get-right game for one of the most balanced teams in the country in Baylor.

Coming off a blowout loss to Kansas on Saturday, West Virginia had some flaws exposed against a team that profiles similarly to the Bears. Like Kansas, Baylor ranks in the upper echelon in the country in both offensive and defensive efficiency and has a deep team, with 8 players averaging at least 17 minutes per game.

The biggest problem I see for the Mountaineers comes in their struggles rebounding the ball. Per Bart Torvik’s T-Ranks, West Virginia is 333rd in the country in defensive rebounding rate. This could spell doom against a Baylor team that ranks 7th in offensive rebounding rate. West Virginia lost the rebounding battle to Kansas 47-38 on Saturday, and I see a similar result unfolding here.

The Mountaineers will need to shoot the lights out to keep pace with Baylor’s second-chance points, but that’s a tall task for a team that ranks 266th nationally in 3-point percentage and shot just 4-18 from beyond the arc in their loss to Kansas.

Unless West Virginia can subvert their shooting woes, I see Baylor pulling away in the second half through their rebounding advantage to cover the 6.5 point spread and am making Baylor -6.5 (-110) my best bet for today’s matchup.
