Rumors began appearing around the internet today that West Virginia Head Coach Dana Holgorsen expressed explicit interest in the Texas Tech head coaching vacancy.

According to reports from Lubbock (the home of Texas Tech), Holgorsen expressed interest but was denied an interview by Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt.

David Collier, the sports director of Red Raider Nation and Don Williams, sportswriter for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal,both confirmed reports out of Lubbock via Twitter.

Dana Holgorsen has been the head coach at West Virginia University for the last eight seasons.  Since taking over for Bill Stewart, he has amassed a 61-40 record, with a winning percentage of .604.  The Mountaineers have won 10 games, twice, under Holgorsen’s leadership.

Mountaineer fans have been critical of their head coach many times during his tenure.  Coming under the harshest criticism is Holgorsen’s record against ranked opponents, a meager 10-20 (.333).

Understandably, no word out of Morgantown to confirm, or deny, Holgorsen’s interest in the Texas Tech, or any other, job.

More to come on this developing story.
