1958, 76-75 WVU

The WVU basketball team beat Villanova, 76-75, on Jan. 8, 1958. This was just the third meeting between the Mountaineers and Wildcats. Villanova won the inaugural contest and the Mountaineers won the second.

This was part of a three-game winning streak against Villanova. The Mountaineers had similar streaks from 1973-75 and 2005-07. West Virginia also suffered one continuous losing streak against the Wildcats from 1998-2000.

In 1958, the Mountaineers slipped by the Wildcats while being the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Jerry West led the way with 37 points and Don Vincent added 13 points. The next season, the WVU basketball team was in the national championship.
