2006, 91-87 WVU

The WVU basketball team beat Villanova, 91-87, on Jan. 8, 2006. West Virginia was just in the top 25 and the Wildcats claimed a No. 3 ranking in the national standings. The win for the Mountaineers was one of the best to that date under former coach John Beilein.

Just like with the 2009 win, the 2006 team had great players who are still regarded as WVU basketball legends. Those two years just had special feels about them and the sustained success over several years is what the WVU basketball team is currently experiencing under Bob Huggins.

The Mountaineers were led by Joe Herber, who scored 3 points, Kevin Pittsnogle, who had 22 points and Mike Gansey who had 21 points. The Wildcats also had a special player in Randy Foye. he finished with 24 points but was intimidated by the West Virginia defense as he committed five turnovers.
