A classic rivalry will be renewed in the Sweet 16 when the WVU basketball team faces Villanova. The Big East will never be the same, but the Mountaineers and Wildcats are reviving a great match up.

The two teams have played a total of 42 times with the Wildcats holding a 22-20 advantage in the all-time series, according to WVUsports.com. The series may not be tied for a while because this match up will probably not happen during any regular season to come.

It will take a postseason tilt for the WVU basketball team to play Villanova and we are all lucky that it came to be. The last time the Wildcats and Mountaineers played was in 2012 with the Mountaineers pulling off an 83-69 victory.

That last match up wasn’t one of the best but there are three victories by the WVU basketball team against the Wildcats that are some of the best in program history. Here is a look at the top three West Virginia wins against Villanova.
