The women’s side of WVU basketball didn’t quite have the season it wanted in 2018. That was apparent with a Senior Night loss to Oklahoma State.

OSU came into the WVU Coliseum and gave the Mountaineers a 79-69 defeat. Just like the men’s team, the West Virginia women have had a hard time closing out games this season. The second half was really a disaster for the women against the Cowboys.

The Mountaineers are 20-9 after the loss and OSU improved to 19-9. Both teams still have a chance to do some things in postseason play. West Virginia didn’t win the games it should have in the regular season and a 3-6 record in conference play at home is evident of that.

But on Senior Night, it was the seniors who stood tall as Teana Muldrow led with 23 points. Shania Ray, a transfer from Florida State who still embraced the entire culture of the WVU basketball team, added 16 points in her final game at the WVU Coliseum. Also, Kristina King added a team-high seven of the team’s 31 rebounds. OSU owned the glass, though, by grabbing 40 rebounds.

West Virginia started hot and led 20-11 after the first quarter. OSU would have the advantage for the remainder behind a 53 percent shooting percentage in the second half. Leading the way for OSU was Braxtin Miller who scored 23 points. Loryn Goodwin added 22 points and Kaylee Jensen added17.

The Mountaineers shot a dismal 35 percent in the second half which isn;t good enough to beat any team in the Big 12. But the Mountaineers were hot on 3-pointers in the first half knocking down 5 of 7, but they only made three in the second half. At one point in the first half, the WVU basketball team lead by 14 points. To go from up 14 to a 10-point loss shows a total breakdown in the gameplan.

There is a chance to make things right before tournament play, but it comes as the biggest test of the season. The WVU basketball team closes out the regular season Monday at No. 3 Baylor. The Bears beat the Mountaineers by 11 points earlier in the season.
