Dewayne Grantham is following his heart and playing football at the next level. Grantham was raised in West Virginia and he will remain in West Virginia.

The WVU football team received a verbal commitment from Grantham on Saturday. He is part of the class of 2019 and is the first native of West Virginia to join that class. There are currently 23 West Virginia natives on the WVU football roster.

The pick up is a good get for the WVU football team. It shows that head coach Dana Holgorsen and his staff are dedicated to retaining the top talent in the state of West Virginia. It also shines a positive light on Grantham as a person and football player.

He was chosen by the WVU football team early in his recruitment and he showed that same loyalty to the Mountaineers by committing early and proving his dedication to the Mountaineers. According to Grantham’s Twitter account, the WVU football team was the first to extend an offer.

Grantham is an outside linebacker who is quick and getting stronger. As he continues to develop, he will be a main part of the West Virginia defense. Defensive coordinator Tony Gibson saw his strengths and knew he would be a great Mountaineer.

Many recruiting sites, including 247sports.com has Grantham as a three-star prospect. He is also the No. 5 recruit in the state of West Virginia. The talent pool is getting stronger in West Virginia and it’s nice to see the Mountaineers offering these deserving players.

Grantham stands 6-foot and weighs 190 pounds. With the Martinsburg football team, he helped garner a state championship and 14-0 record this past season. In Grantham’s three years at Martinsburg, the Bulldogs have a record of 38-3.
