The WVU football team has several big bowl wins which have helped it reach a unique level of national prominence.

But more often than not, late December is not kind to the Mountaineers. West Virginia is 15-21 in bowl games, according to WVUstats.com. Considering the WVU football tea has been around for more than 125 years, only being in a bowl 36 times in underwhelming. Only getting 15 wins is even more shocking.

Now, obviously, the current bowl system was not in place back in the early 1900s. West Virginia actually appeared in its first bowl back in 1937 — the Sun Bowl. It was actually a victory against current conference rival Texas Tech.

West Virginia has a 2-1 record in the Sun Bowl with the lone loss coming against another current conference rival — Oklahoma State. That was a 35-33 setback so it will not appear on this this. The worst losses in bowl games for the Mountaineers come in the modern era of WVU football, mostly in the past two decades.

This first game on the list is all too fresh in the minds of WVU football fans.
