Four best games between Oklahoma and WVU football
2012, 50-49 WVU loss
The best individual performance in WVU football history deserved a better fate than a one-point defeat. Tavon Austin ran over, around and through Oklahoma. His grand night is still talked about.
The speedy Austin ran for 344 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He also caught four passes for 82 yards and returned eight kickoffs for a total of 146 yards. The cast around Austin also performed well enough to win as Geno Smith threw for 320 yards and four touchdowns on 20 of 35 passing. Smith also ran for 52 yards and Andrew Buie added 48 yards. Conversely, OU quarterback Landry Jones had himself a night throwing for more than 500 yards.
The loss was part of a difficult season for the WVU football team. In its first year of the Big 12, the WVU football team went 7-6 and lost to Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl. This loss to OU was the fifth in a string of five losses in the middle of that season.
