2008, 48-28 WVU win

According to HailWV.com, this is the greatest win in the history of the WVU football program. Many fans will agree. The Mountaineers were down and out after Rich Rodriguez left the team to become head coach of Michigan. A few weeks prior, the WVU football team blew its chance to make the national title game with an infamous 13-9 loss to Pitt.

In stepped Bill Stewart as the interim head coach and the Mountaineers were inspired to knock off the Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl. Pat White and Noel Devine both rushed for more than 100 yards at 150 and 108, respectively. Devine had two touchdown runs. White was effective passing the ball for 176 yards on 10 of 19 passing.

The game repositioned the WVU football team as a national threat. The game embodied the way the Mountaineers should play the game. By not backing down and playing gritty, the Mountaineers lifted the spirits of its fans who felt down and out.
