Daxter Miles leads WVU basketball to blowout win
A 32-point performance by Daxter Miles Jr. propelled the WVU basketball team to a 111-48 win over Morgan State on Saturday.
The victory at home was the WVU basketball team’s second this season. The Mountaineers are now 2-1 and have looked dominant following the season-opening defeat to Texas A&M more than a week ago.
Miles also had three assists and a steal. He converted three 3-pointers as the Mountaineers shot 10 of 27 from behind-the-arc. It wasn’t a bad shooting performance and still much improved from that rough outing against Texas A&M. The WVU basketball team still wants a majority of its points to come in the paint.
Down low, Lamont West scored nine points and Sagaba Konate had eight. Konate was back in the lineup after sitting on the bench for the entire game against American University. All 11 players who made an appearance in the game scored, including West Virginia native Logan Routt and Chase Harler who scored three points each.

It’s hard to take much from a game like this because the Mountaineers are on a completely different level than Morgan State, though the program has made a few recent appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
The WVU basketball team did put on an entertaining performance in front of a nice crowd. More than 11,000 people were at the WVU Coliseum, many probably staying in Morgantown following the football game against Texas. Hopefully, many more will come back throughout the season to see this team, which should be able to compete at the top of the Big 12 Conference.
The game was a chance for the WVU basketball team use some bench players and build depth, which could come in handy if injuries to star players occur. The upper echelon of the rotation includes Miles and Jevon Carter. But two other players are showing that they can be go-to scorers when given the chance.
Freshman Teddy Allen and sophomore James Bolden each scored in double figures against Morgan State. Their contributions will be valuable throughout the season.
