2012, 48-45 WVU win

This may just be the defining win for the WVU football team since it joined the Big 12 Conference. The Mountaineers were ranked No. 8 and the Longhorns checked in at No. 11. The nationally televised game on FOX was witnessed by millions and more than 100,000 people saw the game in-person in Austin, Texas.

Geno Smith played great as he threw for 268 yards on 25 of 35 completions with four touchdown passes. Smith did not have an interception. Tavon Austin was also his speedy self, catching 10 passes for 102 yards while having a long reception of 40 yards and a touchdown. Stedman Bailey had three touchdowns.

At that point of the season, the Mountaineers were 5-0 and seemed to be able to transition nicely into the Big 12. It all would soon come crashing down as the WVU football team lost the next five games and finished the 2012 season with a record of 7-6 and a bowl game loss.
