The most recent game in the series proved to be the end for former Texas head coach Charlie Strong. He never lived up to the lofty expectations to bring the Longhorns back to national prominence. He was fired shortly after this game against the WVU football team.

The win was a close one, but the Mountaineers held on thanks to the defense not allowing a score in the fourth quarter. Justin Arndt had 12 tackles for the WVU football, David Long added 10 and Rasul Douglas had an interception.
