The WVU football team has played Kansas State longer than most of the other Big 12 Conference foes.

However, it’s nothing compared to other long-running series in program history, like games against Pitt, Virginia Tech and Maryland. West Virginia has played KSU just seven times, but it is still longer than the five times played against most of the other conference teams.

The series against the Wildcats started in 1930 and that actually continued the next year. But it took 81 years before the WVU football team would play Kansas State again.

The teams are similar in many fashions, being from large, public universities in true college towns. However, the coaching staffs are beyond different as WVU’s Dana Holgorsen represents the new-school modern era and Bill Snyder of Kansas State is about as vintage as can be on the field.

The similarities and differences will play out in another edition of this game on Saturday. But first, take a look back at the best games in this series.
