1987, 35-33 WVU loss

This is an interesting game as it was the Sun Bowl, played on Christmas Day. Just one season later, the Mountaineers would be playing for a national championship. The loss in the bowl game to OSU dropped the curtain on a 6-6 record for the Mountaineers.

In the loss, the WVU football team ran the ball 70 times. Yes, 70 times. The final tally was 331 rushing yards for the Mountaineers and three touchdowns on the ground. Anthony Brown ran for 167 yards and Major Harris added 103.

For the Cowboys, future NFL player Thurman Thomas had 157 rushing yards and four touchdowns while current OSU head coach Mike Gundy had 161 passing yards and one touchdown, although the Mountaineers picked him off twice.
