2012, 59-10 WVU win

This was the first time these two teams met up as members of the Big 12 Conference. What started out as a promising season for the Mountaineers as the new kids on the block, ended with a fairly rude awakening.

The WVU football team did earn the 59-10 win over the Jayhawks at home and finished the regular season at 7-5. The inaugural Big 12 campaign ended at 7-6 because the Mountaineers suffered an extremely disappointing loss to Syracuse in a snowy Yankee Stadium for the Pinstripe Bowl.

But against Kansas, the Mountaineers had a lot of momentum. Andrew Buie made the most of his chance during a solid season for him and had 100 rushing yards and a touchdown against Kansas. Shane Alston had two touchdown runs and Tavon Austin had a rushing score and four catches for 110 yards.

That passing attack was a thing of beauty, most of the time, when Geno Smith was leading the offense. The future professional quarterback was 23 of 24 passing, with the only miscue being an interception. He finished with 407 passing yards.
