1941, 21-0 WVU win
Well, this probably isn’t so memorable. It’s safe to say nobody reading this has any first-hand recollection of this game and nobody was probably even alive for it.
Though, this was the first match up between Kansas and the WVU football team in history. The Mountaineers hosted the Jayhawks at old Mountaineer Field and earned a 21-0 victory. Behind four different running backs who carried the ball at least 10 times, the WVU football team had 181 total rushing yards in the contest.
The Mountaineers of 1941, who finished 4-6, also had wins over Waynesburg, West Virginia Wesleyan and Washington & Lee. Against Kansas, the Mountaineers only gave up 41 rushing yards.
It would be 71 years before West Virginia and Kansas would meet up again.
