Two of the best offensive teams in college football belong to the Big 12 Conference. The WVU football team isn’t there just yet, but the Mountaineers have helped strengthen the conference on all sides of the ball.
Even though there has yet to be a Big 12 team play for the national championship in the new College Football Playoff system, this could be the year one team emerges from the pack.
In the 2015 playoff semifinals, Oklahoma fell to Clemson. The Sooners last year had the second-best total offense in the country. The top spot belonged to another Big 12 foe in Texas Tech. Despite the Red Raiders’ 5-7 record, it was the defense that failed it because the offense was nothing short of legendary. Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury will not back down this year either.
That will be the case this season, too. The Big 12 is loaded with weapons across the field and every team has a handful of players who will be stars on the national level.
The Big 12 does have a reputation of being offense first and defense, well, way less than first. The gunslinging days are far from over, so expect much of the same from Big 12 teams this season.
