For the past month, the WVU football team has been playing against itself. Fall camp has come and it’s about to go with the start of the 2017 season, which is about a week away.

The Mountaineers will take on Virginia Tech Sept. 3 in Landover, Maryland. They open up Milan Puskar Stadium less than a week later by hosting East Carolina Sept. 9. After facing Delaware State the week after, it will be time to get into the Big 12 Conference slate.

The WVU football team competed for a Big 12 title a year ago, but fell short in its two biggest games against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Those two teams are, obviously, back on the schedule this year. Up and down the conference, teams have gotten better.

Teams have reloaded and restocked, and also have a ton of talent coming back.

Here is a list of the top five defensive players the WVU football team will have to face in the 2017 season.
