The WVU baseball team was adept to fighting back all season long, but came up a few runs short in what was their final game of the season.

The Wake Forest bats were too much to handle for the Mountaineers, scoring 12 runs to the Mountaineers eight. The Demon Deacons were favored entering the day, being the No. 1 seed and host of the Winston-Salem Region; the Mountaineer fans traveled extremely wel throughout the weekend, though.

The Mountaineers tried keeping pace with the Deacons, but it just wasn’t in the cards. Wake Forest scored two runs in the 1st, 2nd and 5th innings.

The ‘Eer brought in one run in the 1st, two in the 2nd and three in the 4th. Six runs through four innings is usually pretty good, but the Deacons bat’s poured in six runs in the 4th inning alone.

The score was 12-6 all the way till the 8th inning when the ‘Eers came alive again. Two runs in the inning made the Deacons worry, but that’s all the closer things would get.

Ivan Gonzalez was a solid three-for-five on the day with three hits and three RBIs; he scored twice. Second baseman Kyle Gray struck out twice, but did manage two RBIs on the day.

B.J. Myers only pitched 3.0 innings for the ‘Eers, surrendering ten hits and eight earned runs while only striking out a single batter. Shane Ennis, Ryan McDonald and Cody Wood each made appearances in the final game of the season.
