Gonzaga Heartbreak

Seventeen percent of our pollsters believed the Gonzaga game is the second-most painful WVU loss. At first I thought this was just recency bias, but then Gonzaga won in the Elite 8. And then again in the Final Four. If this team – a team that we pushed to the brink of defeat – beats North Carolina and wins the National Championship, the pain will only grow larger.

And, just for the record, get off of Jevon Carter’s back about the final possession. Did he take the shot Bob Huggins was hoping for? Probably not. But he took what the Bulldogs’ defense gave him, which wasn’t very much. That team still only has one loss on their resume this season, something that’s impressive no matter what conference they play in. It’s really hard rooting for a team that beat you to win, but saying, “WVU lost to the National Champion,” counts for something in sports, right? Right?
