Being a Mountaineer fan is not for the faint of heart. We’ve missed on some of the state’s best home-grown talent, including the greatest wide receiver to ever strap on a helmet. We’ve seen a coach bolt for another job weeks before a BCS-bowl game, only to watch the basketball coach chase him in the spring. We’ve suffered colossal injuries in championship situations, on both the gridiron and hardwood. And we’ve had our share of March sadness, most recently against Gonzaga, of all teams.

To rank the most painful losses in WVU history, I wanted to get the opinions of you – the fans; I took to Twitter for a poll. Twitter only allows four answer choices, but many people brought up some awful memories we’ve tried to forget. Before getting to our poll, what were some of those terribly-heartbreaking losses? I’m so glad you asked!
