It was a rough triple-header for WVU baseball at Bud Metheny Complex over the weekend, losing two of three games against Old Dominion.

The Mountaineers only racked up four hits in Game 1, but would score four runners on their way to an 8-4 loss.

Chase Illig was the most productive batter for the ‘Eers as he brought in two runs and scored once in his two plate appearances. B.J Myers started the game and pitched a total of 6 innings, allowing three earned runs while giving up 5 hits. Freshman Ryan McDonald came in for relief and pitched two innings, allowing three runs off as many hits.

Game 2 was a bit different for WVU, as they tallied eight hits and scored three runs in their lone victory of the weekend.

Clean-up batter Kyle Davis made the biggest impact with his RBI, while also scoring once himself. Davis wasn’t the only Mountaineer to impress in Game 2, though; all but one starter had a hit. Sophomore Michael Grove pitched five no-hit innings that saw 11 batters go down with strikes. This outing would be the ‘Eers only victory of the weekend, with a final score of 3-1.

Game 3 against ODU ended an eight-game road trip with a loss to the Monarchs, 7-4.

Cole Austin was two for four on the night and drove in two runs, while also scoring a run himself. Junior Connor Dotson pitched five innings for the ‘Eers and only gave up 2 runs; he struck out three batters. West Virginia scored three runs in the 9th, but the rally proved to be a little short and too late for a complete comeback. The Mountaineers left six runners on base in this three score game.

WVU was supposed to have their home debut Tuesday, March 14 against Morehead State, but due to inclement weather in the Morgantown-area the game has been postponed. The Mountaineers are scheduled to open conference play Friday at Baylor, with FS1 broadcasting the 9 p.m. first pitch.
