National Signing Day 2017 has been good to WVU Football. With the addition of Alec Sinkfield, it just got a little better.
Sinkfield is a 3-star (247sports) recruit from Delray Beach, Fla. He’s the 56th best running back prospect from his home state.
He caught the attention of both Notre Dame and Miami, and earned offers from WVU, Louisville and North Carolina, among others.
The 5’10”, 190 lbs. running back is a do-it-all type player, too. He was recruited as a running back, but often lined up in the slot for bubble screens and the jet sweep. From juke moves, to cutting on a dime, even lowering his shoulder and delivering the blow – Sinkfield is a complete package.
Dana Holgorsen and the Mountaineers have a number of running backs on the roster, though. Justin Crawford will be a senior. Both Kennedy McKoy and Martell Pettaway are sophomores.

Joining Sinkfield in the 2017 class is New Orleans running back Tevin Bush. McKoy and Pettaway were a sort of one-two punch after a few injuries last year, and Holgorsen wasn’t shy about using multiple backs. I’m not expecting Sinkfield to win the starting job as a freshman, but if he’s called on, he’ll be ready to produce.
Sinkfield had an official visit in Morgantown on Jan. 20 and according to 247sports – it was the only official visit he took. It’s not for everybody, but when some players find a place that’s Almost Heaven, they wind up coming back if they ever left at all. Florida is a pretty popular recruiting ground for the Mountaineers, too. With the addition of Sinkfield, it gives West Virginia another great player to boast from the area.
