Pat White, Quarterback – Jersey No. 5 (2005-2008)

We already mentioned Geno Smith and his incredible run at WVU, but Pat White may be the best quarterback in WVU history.

As a four year starter, White was the first quarterback in the BCS-era to start – and win – four consecutive bowl games. His teams could never get over that final hurdle, though.

We’re not going to talk about the 2008 Backyard Brawl, but White was quite the character.

He accounted for 6,049 passing yards (3rd all-time among Mountaineers) and 56 touchdowns in his career. The ultimate dual-threat quarterback, White is 2nd all-time at WVU in both career-rushing yards (4,480) and rushing touchdowns (47).

With those 4,480 yards, Pat White holds the NCAA record for most rushing yards by a quarterback. He also ranks third on the Big East’s all-time rushing list and fourth for rushing touchdowns scored. And to think, White almost chose baseball over the gridiron! He was chosen by the Miami Dolphins in the 2nd round of the 2009 NFL Draft.
