The WVU football program has joined the fray on one of the nation’s most sought-after prep quarterbacks. Tate Martell out of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman has backed out of his original commitment to Texas A&M and opened up his recruitment.
The Mountaineers would have been stupid not to throw their hat into the ring on Martell. His prospectus grades out to be a prototypical quarterback to fit head coach Dana Holgorsen’s offensive gameplan.

Like current QB Skyler Howard, Martell looks like an able-bodied athlete who can extend the play with his strong arm and swift feet. Still young, Martell has quite some time to develop and grow into his body.
In the meantime, he is continuing to collect offers from schools around the country. Along with West Virginia, North Carolina and Pitt jumped on board at the same time.
Of those three, the Mountaineers seem to have the premier offensive. And, it’s a dynamic offense that is still developing its own identity. Of course, the WVU football program has developed a nationwide following for its pass-happy offense, but that wasn’t the case in 2015.
The Mountaineers utilized a more balanced attack and showcased Wendell Smallwood and Rushel Shell to the fullest extent.
It’s hard to tell who will be around Martell if he arrives in Morgantown in 2017. He may not see the playing field until 2019 or 2020. But, if the five-star prospect is the real deal, he may just push his way up the depth chart right away.

Martell’s stock has risen completely in this spring season as he has led 7 on 7 camps and won each stop he has played in these past few months. Recently, Martell was invited to the 2017 All-American Game, a team reserved for the best of the best in the high school ranks.
According to many outlets, Martell is the No. 1 quarterback in the nation. He also happens to play for one of the top high school programs in the country.
"2015 National Champions!"
The Bishop Gorman Gaels garnered back-to-back national titles and hold one of the country’s longest winning streaks at 39 games.
With Martell under center, the streak has high potential to reach 50 games or more.
If Martell makes his way to WVU, that streak could go even further.
