Solid shooting

Finally, the Mountaineers found their shooting stroke.

West Virginia shot 55.6-percent from the floor and 60-percent from the free throw line. With those kind of marks and the trademarked ‘Press Virginia’ defense, the Mountaineers certainly have their best shot at winning the conference crown and the whole NCAA Tournament.

“Well, you know, shooters, they keep shooting,” said guard Jevon Carter. “I’ve got to give a lot of credit to my guy here to my left, you know, putting a lot of time in in the gym, making sure my shot is correct. And just staying confident, shooting is about staying confident. The more confident you are, the more shots you’re going to make.”

Carter scored 15 points, which was second for the Mountaineers. Devin Williams led the way with 18. Two other players reached double figures, and they were the usual suspects.

Tarik Phillip and Jaysean Paige came off the bench to score 13 and 12 points, respectively.
