2008 Fiesta Bowl

The Mountaineers entered as a heavy underdog to Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.

They left The Grand Canyon State with one of the most outstanding victories in program history.

WVU knocked off the Sooners, 48-28, behind an overpowering offense and a surprising defense. More than 70,000 people were in Scottsdale, Ariz. watching the improbable victory. Millions watched at home and an online poll said that 84-percent of the country had picked Oklahoma to win.

The Mountaineers proved them wrong.

Quarterback Pat White ran for 150 yards and threw for two touchdowns, while Noel Devin rushed for two scores of his own.

It was West Virginia’s second BCS bowl win in three seasons.
