Game 22: 1928 vs. Pitt

The longstanding rivalry between Pitt and West Virginia heated up around this time. It’s when the Mountaineers struggled to keep pace with the Panthers, though. Pitt began a path to national championship honors, while the Mountaineers struggled to find an identity for the program.

A 9-6 win on Oct. 13, 1928 boosted the Mountaineers into the same conversation as Pitt.

Eddie Bartrug intercepted a pass which set up WVU’s winning touchdown, which was a Eddie Stump pass to Nelson Lang.
