Game 29: 2007 vs. Georgia Tech

In late December, when West Virginia teams would find their bowl fate, a trip to Jacksonville, Fla. was initially celebrated. It meant the Gator Bowl, a traditional New Year’s Day game, was looming. Mountaineer fans, and players alike, knew it was one of the premier bowl games in the country.

It was also one the Mountaineers hadn’t won, until 2007. WVU ended an 0-5 Gator Bowl streak with a 38-35 win over Georgia Tech.

Future NFL Pro Bowler Chris “Megatron” Johnson still caught nine passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns, but West Virginia had a star in his own right, Pat White. White ran for 145 yards and tossed for 131 yards. White was named MVP and accounted for three touchdowns. It was one of the four bowl games White won at WVU.
