Game 3: 2005 vs. Louisville
You had to be there to believe it. And, unfortunately, many fans weren’t. What started as a sellout crowd at Mountaineer Field on Oct. 15, 2006, ended with a half-filled stadium in triple overtime.
West Virginia trailed Louisville, 24-7, with eight minutes left in regulation. But a Pat McAfee field goal and three touchdowns by Steve Slaton sent the game to overtime.
Slaton had two more touchdowns in overtime periods to give WVU an improbable 46-44 win over No. 19 Louisville. Slaton, a freshman at the time, finished with 188 yards on 31 carries. He did have all six of the Mountaineers touchdowns.
