Game 9: 1984 vs. Boston College

Perhaps the greatest college quarterback of all-time, Doug Flutie, came to Morgantown on Oc.t 20, 1984 and left with a loss.

“Down goes Flutie!” was a common radio call by Jack Flemming as the Mountaineers blitzed Flutie like crazy. The swarming defense paid off as No. 20 WVU came out with a 21-20 win over No. 4 Boston College.

Touchdown runs by Ron Wolfley and Jon Gay lifted the Mountaineers late.

“WE WIN” flashed on the Mountaineer Field scoreboard as fans poured out onto the field and tore down the goal post.

It was one of just four losses for Flutie in his college career.
