Guard Rod Thorn

Rod Thorn is one of few Mountaineers who went on to have a truly illustrious career in the NBA. Thorn was drafted second overall by the Baltimore Bullets in 1963. His playing days lasted until 1971 with stints with the Detroit Pistons, St. Louis Hawks and Seattle SuperSonics.

Thorn’s executive career, where he is currently NBA President of Basketball Operations, began as a coach with the Spirits of St. Louis of the ABA. He also coached with the Chicago Bulls and has held front office positions with the NBA and 76ers.

At WVU, Thorn scored 1,785 points, which is fifth all-time. He grabbed 912 rebounds, which is seventh all-time and he had 304 assists, 11th all-time. In 1962, he was named an All-American.
